Peace for a time | The Indian Express

This refers to ‘Curtains on Saifai event as stars praise CM, Mulayam’ (IE, January 10). Peace for a time. This refers to the editorial Landmark in Tehran (IE,November 25). The recent breakthrough will go a long way in securing world peace. Tensions between the US and Iran were increasing until the election of President Hassan Rouhani. The animosity between the two countries could easily have boiled over and resulted in a chaotic and dramatic military confrontation. There is no doubt that India will benefit greatly from this development. It has been saved from having to side with one party, now that a deal has been brokered. India has a strategic interest in Irans stability. Any escalation of tensions between the US and Iran would surely have been adversely affected by it. The atmosphere of uncertainty and the war clouds hanging over Tehran have lifted a bit. India and Pakistan should learn from this experience. We should look for diplomatic resolutions to our problems. Ashok Goswami. Mumbai. Miles to go. This refers to AAP ki adalat by Shekhar Gupta (IE,November 23). There is still a lot that the young political outfit needs to learn. But we cannot ignore the fact that the AAP has surprised even well-established players with its grassroots mobilisation, which is essential for a political party to succeed electorally. Also,to be fair,Arvind Kejriwals vision of crowdsourcing decisions is nothing but the decentralisation of power. He doesnt mean for foreign policy to be crowdsourced, only local governance and policy issues. There is nothing new about this, but the AAP is the only political party that is talking about this today. Adityavikram More. Mumbai. Criminal minds. This refers to Tejpals family putting pressure, says victim (IE,November 24). The young woman journalist who has accused Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal of sexual assault has claimed that attempts are being made to pressure and influence her family members. If this is true, the authorities need to provide her and her family with security so that they dont feel harassed or intimidated. Veiled threats and money power have,in the past, succeeded in helping offenders literally get away with murder. There seems to be strong evidence against Tejpal. He must immediately be brought to book. N.J. Ravi Chander. Bangalore. The Tehelka rape case is the perfect example of the hypocrisy of the media. The media pretends to protect citizens from injustice. But today we see how powerful people within the industry band together to protect. one another. A bad headline is a lapse of judgement. Rape is a crime against the state. Its not simply bad judgement. Its criminal. To label it an internal matter is delusional.
